Fredrik Huss is Associate Professor in plastic surgery at Uppsala University; Senior consultant in Plastic surgery and Hand surgeon, Director of Uppsala Burn Center (2011-), and Director of the Tissue Establishment (2011-) at Dept of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, Uppsala University Hospital. Huss is also Co-founder and Medical Advisor of CTC Clinical Trial Consultants AB, Sweden. He holds functions as Burn Expert for the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare’s Stödstyrkan (Swedish Response Team) and for the Swedish National Air Medevac.
Huss was trained at Karolinska Institutet, Harvard Medical School, and Mayo Medical School. He earned his MD at Karolinska Institutet 2001, finished a research residency in plastic surgery/burn treatment at Linköping University Hospital 2005, and received his PhD title at Linköping University 2005 with the thesis “In vitro and in vivo studies of tissue engineering in reconstructive plastic surgery”.
Huss became specialist in Plastic Surgery – 2005 and in Hand Surgery – 2008, and earned his Ass Prof in 2010.
Huss held the position as Director of the Burn Center at Linköping University Hospital 2006-10 and Director of Specialised Plastic Surgery at Uppsala University Hospital 2011-2014.
Interests: burn care; wound care; tissue engineering; cell & tissue banking; skin substitutes; mass (burn) casualty incidents; clinical trials.
64 scientific articles, 3 book chapters, 7 internet-education chapters (hand surgery, wound treatment, burns), 1 chapter in trauma course manual (ATSS), co-author to Guide to the quality and safety of tissues and cells for human application 2nd Edition 2014. European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & Health Cares (EDQM).
Huss is a regular lecturer for medical students and physician in specialty training, as well as supervisor for students in the Master’s program. (Co-) Supervised 17 undergraduate medical/biomedical students, 1 LIC, and 5 PhD students.
Huss is member of European Burns Association Executive Board 2016-, currently as secretary.
